Rock n' Water 2018

High School & College summer camp was incredible! We got to head up north to the American River to Rock n Water. The drive is about 8 hours with stops which provides plenty of bonding time on the way to camp. We got there later than we intended so we were partially setting up in the dark. We sleep in tents that we provide so each tent had to be set up by mostly people who hadn't set up a tent before so it was extra adventurous in the twilight hour.
Day one: Rafting. We woke up bright and early for our time on the river. Our group had two rafts which were chosen by our guide. Coincidentally he made a raft full of leaders and one full of students :o This years rafting trip got a little crazy on the rapids. Everyone survived and came out unharmed thanks to the quick thinking and team mentality of the rock n water guides. These are memories we will all be able to cherish. I love that we do this trip with the college group too because it creates a good bridge from High School to college, especially for current seniors who just graduated.
Day 2: Canyoneering. This is basically a super intense hike with cliff jumping, rock climbing and swimming. We created so many awesome memories on this years hike some of which you can see in the video below. We have the butt-dam (1:01) which created a massive wave when everyone stood up. Cliff jumping (0:45). At 1:15 there is a rock underwater with a hole in it that you can swim through. It's pretty crazy! We had several students try it, including Jacob, who is pictured in the video.
This trip has some great memories tied to it. There are so many things we did that I never would have imagined I would do. These are moments that I look back on as little victories. Even though they didn't improve my status in life or change me in any major way, they gave me confidence and courage. I can look back and say I did it to a scary situation that I didn't know if I would be able to make it through. My prayer is that the students who came with had a similar experience. I hope that they too look at life with more courage and think "I can".
